Born in Corsham in Q1-1890 [Chippenham 5a:65] to George and Elizabeth Jane NORTH (née ELMS) of Priory Road, Corsham, Wiltshire.

1891 census...Albert [1] was at Priory Road, Corsham with his father George [35] a quarryman born 'Pershet' (actually Manton), Wiltshire; his mother Elizabeth [39]; sisters Annie [11]; Rose [7], and Louise [3], all born in Corsham.

1901 census...Albert [11] was still at Priory Road with his parents and new siblings, Florence [8] and George [6] both born in Corsham.

1911 census...Albert [21] was a freestone quarrying picker and sawyer, living with his parents and brother George in Priory Street, Corsham. 2 of his siblings had died.

He married Caroline Charlotte COE in Newmarket in Q1-1916 and they lived at Regent Cottage, Regent Street, Newmarket.

He gave his residence as Corsham on enlistment in Whitehall, London, so presumably moved to Newmarket at the time of his marriage to Caroline. Their son, Walter Jack NORTH was born in Newmarket in 1917, died 2003 in Bury St Edmunds.


He died in Aldershot (death registered Farnham 2a:294). His private headstone has the date of death as 21st November 1917. No medal card has been found which suggests he never served overseas.



Albert is buried in Newmarket Cemetery- Ref:H:658C
and also commemorated on the Roll of Honour in St Marys Church, Newmarket
